Try-on Haul: Goodwill Outlet & Dirt Cheap

Try-on Haul: Goodwill Outlet & Dirt Cheap

Last weekend, I went thrifting with my best friend and queen of the thrift store, Molly. Here she is in her natural habitat: Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

(This isn’t the thrift store we visited, but it’s too good of a picture not to share)

We found some really great deals and probably bought more than we should have. But isn’t that the best kind of thrifting trip?

Everything pictured is from the Goodwill Outlet, except for the daisy top, thermos, denim headband, and Birkenstocks. Those came from Dirt Cheap, which is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine!

Here’s how I might style some of the items I found.

Daisy top ($2) and Birkenstocks-style sandals ($6). I kind of hate myself for loving these. They’re in the “so ugly they’re cute” category, I think. All I know is, my feet will be extra comfy.

I almost fought a lady for this weird bag ($2). I picked it up and was on the fence. I mean, it’s kind of crazy, I didn’t know if I would get a lot of use out of it. And she was pestering me, saying “are you going to get that? You should give to me. If you don’t want it, come find me. Hey, I’m about to check out, did you decide about that bag yet?”
Well, I bought it, and wore it to Festival International. I hope she saw me there and was jealous.

This tank top ($2) is from Paper Crane, which is a pretty expensive brand. I just love the delicate eyelash lace, but I’m afraid that it could get ruined if I tuck it into my shorts all day :(

Striped crop top ($2) and denim headband ($2). I think this works better wrapped around my bun than as an actual headband. Without some serious grippy material on the inside, headbands fall straight off my head. Am I the only one with this problem?

Just a cozy long sweater ($2). It’s really soft and seems barely worn. Of course, I had been looking for a long sweater like this a few weeks ago. I caved and bought one full price at the mall, right before I found this gem. Isn’t that how it always goes? I’m not too mad though. You can never have too many sweaters.

Such a cute dress, but SO short ($2). Remind me never to bend down, k? I feel like I should be going to a tea party or a baby shower or something.

This zigzag dress ($2) was too large in the waist so I ended up belting it with this black skinny belt ($2).

Molly found this velvet shirt for me! It’s kinda weird and dated, but I just love a good velvet for the holidays. I think it can work tucked into a pencil skirt with a pretty necklace.

As always, happy thrifting.

Thrifted OOTD: The No Fleas Market

Thrifted OOTD: The No Fleas Market

Yesterday, I went into New Orleans with Brandon and we visited the No Fleas Market, a resale shop which supports animal welfare. When someone donates clothing, they choose which animal rescue they would like the profits to go towards. I got this great long sweater there, and Brandon found a sportcoat and hoodie. I may turn him into a thrift shopper yet!

Happy thrifting,

OOTD: Independence Day

OOTD: Independence Day

Today was spent with family and a couple great friends. We grilled and swam in our backyard pool. My sister Penny and I coordinated our outfits to be extra-festive today. We were fabulous on the Fourth!

Shirt: Goodwill (Originally Quizz) $3.49
Shorts: Goodwill Outlet (Originally Chic) $2
Bandana: Garage sale $0.25
Total: $5.74
(my shorts were made in the USA, how appropriate!)

Dress: Goodwill (Originally French Connection) $4.99
Bandana: Stolen from ex-boyfriend……$0
Total: $4.99

Penny found quite the great deal on her dress…..after some googling, it looks like her dress cost $138 at original retail price. The price she paid is about 96% off! I’m jealous. I found the dress, but it looked WAY better on her, so I begrudgingly let her buy it…..haha! Penny and I love thrift shopping together. Our tastes and our sizes are similar enough that we can share some things, but different enough that we don’t fight over the items we find….usually.

Thrifted OOTD: “Mom Shorts”

Thrifted OOTD: “Mom Shorts”

Wow, the last time I updated was in November! Hopefully I can get back into the groove of posting more often. I’m trying to learn how to take good pictures of myself with a tripod, and it’s harder than I imagined. I think if I had a nicer camera it would be easier…(and by nicer I mean a DSLR instead of an itty bitty point and shoot)…but let’s face it, I’m not going to buy a nicer camera unless I can find one at Goodwill LOL

I just love beaded/sequined sandals. I have quite a few of them now (all thrifted of course!) and they’re a simple way to jazz up an outfit. Much better than flip flops!

Today I tried the “crown twist.” It’s kind of a French rope braid that goes all the way around your head. I’ll need to practice this one a lot more, but I’m happy to say that my slippery hair managed to stay put for quite some time. Usually it slips right out of a braid!

Shorts: Goodwill Outlet (Originally Chic) – $2
Shirt: Goodwill Outlet (Originally Mudd) – $2
Belt: Goodwill (Originally Ann Taylor Loft) – $1.99
Shoes: Goodwill Outlet (Originally Kenneth Cole Reaction) – $2
Necklace: Gift from Dad! – $0
Total: $7.99

Thrifted OOTD: Leather & Lace

Thrifted OOTD: Leather & Lace

OK, this outfit isn’t completely thrifted. Those boots were a splurge, but I wear them all the time so they’re worth it! And hey…..I got them on sale :P
Shirt: Thrift shop in Virginia (No tag) $0. Thank you Ann Marie for the lovely gift! :D
Cardigan: Salvation army (Originally Mossimo Supply Co.) $2
Pants: Goodwill (Originally Noble) $2
Socks: Wal-Mart $6
Necklace: Garage sale $0.25
Purse: Goodwill (Originally Fossil) $3.50
Boots: Aerosoles $60
Total: $73.75

Spendaholic over here what whaaaaat

But seriously, that purse is one of my favorite finds ever. Similar purses at Fossil go for about $200-$250 new! I scored a good one.

Thrifted OOTD: Last minute shopping for a ball?!

Thrifted OOTD: Last minute shopping for a ball?!

My university’s College of the Arts held their annual ball and I was lucky enough to go this year! However, I didn’t have any formal clothes up at school. Last semester, I brought several fancy outfits and didn’t end up wearing a single one….so when I was (attempting to) pack light for this current semester, I decided to leave all my formal clothes behind. Big oops! I guess I DID need them after all.

So on the day of the ball, I trekked out to the outlet goodwill. The selection is amazing and it’s never let me down.

SCORE! I found this dress that I swear was tailor-made for my body! I think it fits perfectly. Also, it has no tag, and from the looks of the stitching and the zipper, I’m almost positive someone made it.

Here is what I wore to the ball. However, this is before I curled my hair, and put in contacts and more makeup. Ignore my face, just look at the outfit! :P

Dress: Goodwill (originally homemade?) $2
Shoes: Marshall’s (originally Aerosoles) $15
Necklace: Goodwill (originally aerie) $8
Total: $25

Expensive necklace, right? That was from a Goodwill in Annapolis. Their cost of living must be a lot higher than what I’m used to. Oh, and their dresses started at $8-$15, they even had formals as high as $70 *faints*

Thrifted OOTD: Lumberjack!

Thrifted OOTD: Lumberjack!

A while ago on youtube, I saw Macbarbie07’s inspiration video for back to school outfits. Now, she published this video on August 1st, when it was still sweltering here in Louisiana. But I loved her outfit with the flannel shirt so much that I decided I wanted one!

It wasn’t too hard to find. In fact, I went with my friend Brad to the outlet goodwill (we were looking for clothing for a project that was later to be cut up and destroyed and painted on) and though I wasn’t looking for clothes for myself, I stumbled upon this perfect lumberjack flannel shirt from Forever 21. Today was the first time it was really cool enough to wear it!
Shirt: Goodwill (Originally Heritage 1981, a branch of Forever 21) $2
Jeans: Goodwill (Originally Noble) $2
Cami: Forever 21, $1.99 on sale
Rings: EBay, $1 each, so $3 total
Necklace: Gift, $0
Boots: Maurices, $10 on sale
Total: $18.99
