Try-on Haul: Goodwill Outlet & Dirt Cheap

Try-on Haul: Goodwill Outlet & Dirt Cheap

Last weekend, I went thrifting with my best friend and queen of the thrift store, Molly. Here she is in her natural habitat: Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

(This isn’t the thrift store we visited, but it’s too good of a picture not to share)

We found some really great deals and probably bought more than we should have. But isn’t that the best kind of thrifting trip?

Everything pictured is from the Goodwill Outlet, except for the daisy top, thermos, denim headband, and Birkenstocks. Those came from Dirt Cheap, which is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine!

Here’s how I might style some of the items I found.

Daisy top ($2) and Birkenstocks-style sandals ($6). I kind of hate myself for loving these. They’re in the “so ugly they’re cute” category, I think. All I know is, my feet will be extra comfy.

I almost fought a lady for this weird bag ($2). I picked it up and was on the fence. I mean, it’s kind of crazy, I didn’t know if I would get a lot of use out of it. And she was pestering me, saying “are you going to get that? You should give to me. If you don’t want it, come find me. Hey, I’m about to check out, did you decide about that bag yet?”
Well, I bought it, and wore it to Festival International. I hope she saw me there and was jealous.

This tank top ($2) is from Paper Crane, which is a pretty expensive brand. I just love the delicate eyelash lace, but I’m afraid that it could get ruined if I tuck it into my shorts all day :(

Striped crop top ($2) and denim headband ($2). I think this works better wrapped around my bun than as an actual headband. Without some serious grippy material on the inside, headbands fall straight off my head. Am I the only one with this problem?

Just a cozy long sweater ($2). It’s really soft and seems barely worn. Of course, I had been looking for a long sweater like this a few weeks ago. I caved and bought one full price at the mall, right before I found this gem. Isn’t that how it always goes? I’m not too mad though. You can never have too many sweaters.

Such a cute dress, but SO short ($2). Remind me never to bend down, k? I feel like I should be going to a tea party or a baby shower or something.

This zigzag dress ($2) was too large in the waist so I ended up belting it with this black skinny belt ($2).

Molly found this velvet shirt for me! It’s kinda weird and dated, but I just love a good velvet for the holidays. I think it can work tucked into a pencil skirt with a pretty necklace.

As always, happy thrifting.

Yesterday, I went into New Orleans with Brandon and we visited the No Fleas Market, a resale shop which supports animal welfare. When someone donates clothing, they choose which animal rescue they would like the profits to go towards. I got this great long sweater there, and Brandon found a sportcoat and hoodie. I may turn him into a thrift shopper yet!

Friday was the opening of my college’s BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) show. Several of my graphic design pieces were on display!

I love any excuse to dress fancy, so I broke out the velvet. The dress actually has a beautiful open back, but I forgot to photograph it unfortunately.

Dress: Dirt Cheap (Originally Apt. 9) $2.50
Necklace and earring set: Walmart $7.99
Shoes: Goodwill (Originally Alex Marie) $3
Total: $13.49

My mom, Melissa, and boyfriend, Brandon, are also looking great, but they didn’t get their clothes from Goodwill! :P

Dirt Cheap is a ridiculous store. According to the website, most of their stock is customer returns. But they also receive overstock, damaged merchandise, liquidations, and out of season goods. It’s about as organized as you’d expect a place called “dirt cheap” to be, so shopping turns into quite the adventure.

I’d been looking for pointed toe nude ballet flats and Dirt Cheap delivered! These were originally from Target.

The best find, however…

A set of Calphalon pots and pans for only $40! Now, the largest pot was missing. But seeing as this set goes for $199 new, I think it was still a great deal. I can’t wait to cook on these.

Wishing good thrifting karma to everyone,
-Molly

OOTD: Independence Day

OOTD: Independence Day

Today was spent with family and a couple great friends. We grilled and swam in our backyard pool. My sister Penny and I coordinated our outfits to be extra-festive today. We were fabulous on the Fourth!

Penny found quite the great deal on her dress…..after some googling, it looks like her dress cost $138 at original retail price. The price she paid is about 96% off! I’m jealous. I found the dress, but it looked WAY better on her, so I begrudgingly let her buy it…..haha! Penny and I love thrift shopping together. Our tastes and our sizes are similar enough that we can share some things, but different enough that we don’t fight over the items we find….usually.

Thrifted OOTD: Is that an apron or a skirt?

Thrifted OOTD: Is that an apron or a skirt?

So, I’ve never owned a wrap skirt before. Despite its initial resemblance to an apron, I think it looks pretty good! Especially when paired with these great thrifted boots that make me tall, but not too tall. I’m uncomfortable in high heels, and always feel like I’m going to tip over! Fortunately the 90’s are making a comeback–that means chunky, stable, comfortable heels are in again. Sigh of relief.

Thrifted OOTD: “Mom Shorts”

Thrifted OOTD: “Mom Shorts”

Wow, the last time I updated was in November! Hopefully I can get back into the groove of posting more often. I’m trying to learn how to take good pictures of myself with a tripod, and it’s harder than I imagined. I think if I had a nicer camera it would be easier…(and by nicer I mean a DSLR instead of an itty bitty point and shoot)…but let’s face it, I’m not going to buy a nicer camera unless I can find one at Goodwill LOL

I just love beaded/sequined sandals. I have quite a few of them now (all thrifted of course!) and they’re a simple way to jazz up an outfit. Much better than flip flops!

Today I tried the “crown twist.” It’s kind of a French rope braid that goes all the way around your head. I’ll need to practice this one a lot more, but I’m happy to say that my slippery hair managed to stay put for quite some time. Usually it slips right out of a braid!
